how to make ribbon flowers

Tutorial: make ribbon flowers

It's day 2 of Flower Week, and we've got one of our quickest projects ever for you! Ribbon flowers are super simple to make, and they can be used for so much! I've been using them mostly for cards lately, but they are perfect for little girls' hair clips, headbands, purses, onesies or girls' t-shirts, well you get the idea. You can do a LOT with them.

Tutarial: Tea Cup Flower Sewing Series!

Sewing Flower pin cushions tutorial
I've gotten a lot of inquiries about the flower pin cushion on my banner (now replaced by a spiffier version). Yes, I made it- using a tea cup as a template! Here is the tutorial so you can make your own!
You'll want to start gathering up your scraps and create a garden of these little guys! Each day this week, I'll be posting a new application for these flowers! They have so many more uses than just holding pins!
What you'll need:
Scraps of fabric, enough for 10 tea cup circles, pen, needle and thread, pins, your tea cup, a little stuffing
The mouth of the tea cup that I used is about 3.5" in diameter, but feel free to use larger or smaller cups. You can even try an alluminum vegetable can to produce a slightly smaller flower or a cereal bowl for a super-sized bloom!

DIY Cupid's Arrow Cupcake + Treat Bag Toppers

Hello sweets! Back in November (during the madness of the holidays) Fossil got in touch and asked if I would like to create a Valentine DIY project to share on their site. I love Fossil, so my answer was a quick "yes." I ended up dreaming up a sweet little set that is perfect for a Valentine's Day party for both kids or adults, or just for one special someone: Cupid's Arrow Cupcake Toppers and Cupcake Bands (see how the cupcakes look like they've been shot by Cupid's arrow!). The directions and free download can be found over on Fossil. I hope you will enjoy making them as much as I did (creating those little feather toppers is super easy and oh-so addictive).

Candy Cane Cozy

I never hang candy canes on the tree because I fear my kids will eat them when I'm not looking. And today my suspicions were confirmed. I hung this candy cane cozy with a candy cane in it on the tree. Later in the day I noticed there was a chopstick in its place. You read right, a chopstick! My four year old made the old switch-a-roo. As if I wouldn't notice, LOL. So you see, they actually serve a purpose, if there's an empty cozy then you know someone ate a candy cane.

Crafting with the Cricut Expression

With the Cricut expression I also received two of their new cartridges they just released, "Winter Woodland" and "From My Kitchen". I used the Winter Woodland Cartridge for all the crafts below. I was so busy playing with the Woodland cartridge I didn't even get around to using the "From My Kitchen" cartridge. But trust me, I already have ideas for that cartridge as well. Another day, another post.

Craft Project: Creative Gift Wrap

I've been playing around with creative ways to wrap gifts lately. I find myself coming up with lots of ideas when I have 23 + gifts to wrap. That's right, I have 23 people on my list this year. Which brings me to a question, how many people do you have on your list? I'm guessing I'm on the high end but I really have no clue. Curious to hear your answers.

Directions below.

Gift Wrapping with Mizuhiki Cord

I decided to decorate some of my Christmas presents this year with mizuhiki cord. The knot on the box is called an abalone knot. It's also referred to as awabi musubi, the Josephine knot, or a good luck knot. This is one of the easier mizuhiki knots to make.

Supplies
:
mizuhiki cord - I purchased the cord in SF Japan town. You can also find it online.
scissors
hot glue gun

Thanksgiving Paper Lanterns

diy paper lanterns for thanksgiving
Not only are these paper lanterns incredibly easy to make, they look a little like modern pumpkins and gourds.
Grouped together – as spotted on designer/crafter Elise Blaha – they’re also a perfect way to decorate for a casual Thanksgiving dinner. Use a variety of paper in fall colours, or mix it up with metallic or patterned papers in harvest hues.
