Tutarial: Tea Cup Flower Sewing Series!

Sewing Flower pin cushions tutorial
I've gotten a lot of inquiries about the flower pin cushion on my banner (now replaced by a spiffier version). Yes, I made it- using a tea cup as a template! Here is the tutorial so you can make your own!
You'll want to start gathering up your scraps and create a garden of these little guys! Each day this week, I'll be posting a new application for these flowers! They have so many more uses than just holding pins!
What you'll need:
Scraps of fabric, enough for 10 tea cup circles, pen, needle and thread, pins, your tea cup, a little stuffing
The mouth of the tea cup that I used is about 3.5" in diameter, but feel free to use larger or smaller cups. You can even try an alluminum vegetable can to produce a slightly smaller flower or a cereal bowl for a super-sized bloom!

Tutorial Gift: Felt Poinsettia

IMG_8361
Yesterday, my girls and I were working on a few Christmas gifts for their friends.  One thing led to another and I found myself making yet another flower pin.  This time a Poinsettia.  I loved this project and ended up making two for my girls, and plan on making more.  They are perfect as a broach or as a hair clip.
Here’s what you will need:
  • Small amount of red wool felt (I used scraps from another project.)
  • Very small amount of green wool felt (also scraps)
  • button
  • pin or hair clip
  • freezer paper

Handmade Baby Gift in 30 mins. How To

A). Drop the groceries, run around looking for something adorable only to show up late, with spoiled groceries and empty handed?
B). Drop your groceries, run to your 4 year old child's closet and pull out something. Wrap it up and explain to the confused new parents that their kid will grow into it?
C). Finish your shopping calmly, adding formula and a pack of diapers to be gift-wrapped?
D). Finish your grocery shopping and go home to make this... in 30 mins.

Alright, not the normal amount of effort I would exert on a new-baby gift but with moments warning, this is the best you get. Lesson? Call ahead if you want something really cool, otherwise get a modified one-sie.

30 Minute Handmade Baby Gift How To:

Marerials:
1 Plain Onesie, any size or color you like
1 stained but salvageable or outgrown child t-shirt in bright color, you will cut around the stains, no worry

Silver fabric paint

Cut paper template of simple flower shape, whatever you like
The Basics: (scissors, needle, thread, glue gun)
....and 30 minutes from start to finish, including dry time.

Fabric flowers

1. I am in love with your blog, Hello!Self, not only is it gorgeous, but it hits right at the heart of celebrations…creating memorable moments in our lives. Your shop heralds the handmade and supports heirloom celebrations, the kinds that are meaningful and personal. I am incredibly inspired by you, in awe really. What 3 things most inspire you?

Jenny, thank you! I can’t tell you how much it means to me that you connect with the spirit of celebration in my work. That’s a beautiful thing. Thank you, also, for the opportunity to come into YOUR beautiful space.
